How to Liberate Yourself from the "Black Friday" Spell of Mass Consciousness
Black Friday and the holiday shopping season are great opportunities to release scarcity thinking.
Hello friend,
I was planning to send out my “New Earth” post I had alluded to last week, and then I realized something else is up right now:
SHOPPING.
SALES.
SPEND SPEND SPEND.
(Or, in other words, “Old Earth.”)
Even if you don’t live in the US, you might have noticed the Black Friday emails having started to trickle into your inbox…. long before Friday.
According to an article in TIME, retailers start sending out their Black Friday deals early because “they are afraid.”
And we all know that this won’t end Friday night. There’s Cyber Monday. There’s Boxing Day in the UK. There’s the whole holiday shopping season ahead of us.
In this article, I want to share a few thoughts on how we can release a collective spell —the “Black Friday”/”holiday shopping” spell. This should make it a lot easier to shop consciously (if you want to shop), all while feeling fully grounded and centered.
My own experience
Just the other day, I noticed myself getting rather stressed out about the upcoming sales on Black Friday and the pressure of deciding what to get.
Have you ever felt something similar?
At some point, I realized that this feeling I was experiencing was not me. It was like I had been put under a spell. I had been overtaken by a mass consciousness energy that gets activated during Black Friday—an energy that is anchored in scarcity thinking.
For what are some of the most common emotions associated with Black Friday? Emotions such as greed and FOMO. And these are basically the opposite of a healthy sense of “enoughness.”
Fear of missing out is so common these days that we even have an acronym for it.
I wonder if my ancestors didn’t have an acronym for this because they were more in touch with a healthy sense of contentment. If you had enough to eat, if you and your family members were in good health, if you were warm enough, wasn’t that enough?
Perhaps my ancestors just didn’t think as much about all the things they were missing out on. They had less upward mobility, fewer possibilities, and less access to information than me—and yet, perhaps it was easier for them to be content with life as long as their life conditions were decent.
Be that as it may, we live today, at a time that some people refer to as “late stage capitalism.” And that entails SALES, SALES, SALES.
How to consciously relate to this
So, let’s explore how we can consciously relate to this, so we can be clear, grounded, and centered in the middle of whatever is going on around us.
1. Become aware of what is happening
Awareness is almost always the first step to changing anything.
By now, most of us are probably aware of manipulative tactics that can be used during sales processes. What I only realized the other day is that there’s also an energetic side to all this—the mass consciousness energy associated with specific things or events.
Mass consciousness is neither good nor bad. It just is. And if we’re not aware of it, it can influence many of our life choices. I referenced this in my article about Social Media, which is another area where we can experience a lot of mass consciousness.
Mass consciousness gets created if a number of people think similar thoughts and feel similar emotions repeatedly, over a length of time. Once it exists, we can fall under its spell.
How can you detect if you are under a mass consciousness spell? By getting clear on what is really your energy. Then, it’s easy to notice things that “aren’t you.” For instance, it’s very uncommon for me to feel as stressed out over unimportant things as when I considered the Black Friday sales.
To my logical mind, this made no sense. To my Higher Self, this made no sense. To my husband, this made no sense. That’s because I was experiencing a mass consciousness energy, not something that is really “mine.”
2. Question and bring light to mass consciousness
Once it’s obvious that you have a reaction to something that’s not your own, you can start to bring light to this, for instance, by lightly questioning it.
In my case, my husband pointed out that
“there will always be sales,”
that many Black Friday offers really aren’t that great a deal, and that
sometimes companies just increase the price the week before so they can then drop it for a “special sale.”
His infusion of sanity helped me calm down. It reminded me of what I already knew (but what can be hard to remember when we’re under a spell).
If you’d like a “sanity infusion”, a CNBC article offered the following insights:
“According to WalletHub’s holiday shopping survey, 35% of items at major retailers will offer no savings compared to their pre-Black Friday prices.
A separate analysis of previous Black Friday sales found that 98% of the deals were the same price or cheaper at other points during the year. None were cheaper on Black Friday alone.”
If price is an issue, it can also be worth it to check out eBay for (gently) used or refurbished items…. which are available all throughout the year.
3. Only act once you feel clear and good
I really like an insight I got from Abraham Hicks: whenever we don’t feel good, it’s because our soul’s perspective on something is different from our ego’s perspective.
For instance, if I’m annoyed at my husband, that doesn’t feel good because my soul is seeing the beauty of his soul and the love that we share. Meanwhile, my ego notices that my husband just <insert pet peeve here>.
In the case of “Black Friday” mass consciousness, my soul knows that there’s enough of everything and that it’s important for me to feel good. Meanwhile, my ego thinks it’s worth feeling stressed out as long as I’m getting this one special deal that will never come back.
So, my plan for this shopping season is to feel as good as possible before I buy something. That way, I know I’m as close as possible to seeing things through the eyes of my soul.
What we most need on Black Friday and during the holiday season is something that can’t be bought:
awareness,
inner peace, and
a sense of enoughness.
Thankfully, you already have all of this within you.
You, as you are right now, are more than enough. You are literally made of stardust. And there’s not a single gadget in the world that could be cooler than that.
My “Any Day of the Week for the Last Few Months” Offer
P.S.: To share my non-Black Friday offer with you: For the last few months, I have offered my intro coaching consultation for ~50% off. However, I just realized that I never actually announced that discount anywhere—so the only people who have been able to take advantage of this are those who already were determined to work with me.
While I dislike being sales-y, not even mentioning when you’re offering a discount is clearly not exactly helpful either. :)
So, consider this is my announcement: Crystal Clarity Calls are currently still discounted (from $111 to $60). I plan to increase the price in December, so if you have been curious about coaching with me, now would be a great time!
During a Crystal Clarity Call, I’ll help you gain, well, clarity. If you’re unsure about where you’re going, I’d love to help you get clear.
This is a salve to the frenzied state that capitalism puts us in. Thank you for the reminder.
Thanks so much for the reminder. I really have been caught up in scarcity thinking the last few days and did not even consider how much the season could be affecting me. This was very grounding to read.
