I liked this read Louise. And I'm with you, definitely on the soul-based definition of succes.
What I do believe is that everybody first has to go through the ego defining succes phase before striving and reaching the soul defining succes - especially in the Western countries. Hit the low first (aka having the money and the status job but realising you feel like absolute shit) to get to the high and start the transformation journey.
Ooh, that's such a good point, Marie! Yes, the trajectory almost always seems to go from ego defining success to soul defining success. Thanks for adding that insight to the conversation!
Louise, I really can't identify with "rich" people at all anyway. I don't want a yacht. I don't want a mansion. I don't want a Rolex or a Mercedes-Benz. I might be self-sabotaging myself a little bit because I see being rich as this inherently questionable thing that I don't want. After what I've seen living in developing countries, I don't want any parts of being rich.
Yeah, I can relate! I wonder if it's not even about having an issue with luxury per se, and more about having an issue with the gross inequality? Like, I'd love a world where everyone is abundant... and that might mean finding a very different definition of abundance.
Success is when one is happy despite where one are in life. Of course people want different things in life but in the long run what counts is how we fell inside on a daily basis.
Naively enough, I always had the same idea of what success is all along…success is not reached or achieved, success is lived…like you said but in other words you are successful when what you do, work hard on, struggle for, persist on, makes you happy and other people happy…a win-win-win…
Thanks so much, Luisfe! I'm really glad it resonated with you and... yes... some deep questions in here! Looking forward to seeing what comes up for you over time, if you like to share!
Louise, I enjoyed reading about your perspective shifts on the topic of success. I feel that mine are in flux as we speak -- becoming a mom has really shifted my view on so many things. I think I'm still in the thick of that change and I'm interested to see what ideas will take shape.
I can so relate, Courtney! Becoming a parent is one of the deepest shifts humans can go through, so it's not surprising that it would shift so many of your perspectives... and also, that it would take time to integrate those shifts and changes. Thanks for your comment!

I so agree that how we feel internally matters, Zondra. Thanks for commenting!

I like that phrase, "success is not reached or achieved, success is lived." Thanks for sharing this!
what a beautiful article… it made some deep thoughts and insights arise while reading.
what is the soul? (what a great inquiry !)
what does success feel like?…. (mmmm the YUM zone)
what does success feel like from the soul perspective? (uffff that now that is a deep one)
thank you
